Creating the Perfect Indoor Garden Oasis:
Gardeners around the world uses all types of materials to make their own containers for their gardening needs. Woods, stone, and plastic are the most common types. For the purposes of our garden segment, we will utilize a decorative glass dish that can often be overlooked as an appropriate vessel for the perfect garden oasis! Additional materials you may want to consider (or will need to piece your own garden oasis together): 3-4in potted plants of any of the variety suggested in the list above, or that of your choosing, some all purpose potting mix, cast/decorative pebbles or moss, and decorative driftwood.
- Make sure the dish you are using is cleaned and free from all debris
- Position your potted plants in their original plastic containers on the dish until they are in the desired position or to your liking… and take note of how/where each plant is positioned.
- Once you have each plant where you want it, take all potted plants and put them aside off of the dish. Take ½ pound of decorative gravel/rock mix and pour it into the dish. Spread the stone throughout the center of the dish (this helps create drainage for excess water).
- Now one-by-one, remove the plants from their plastic containers and re-position them as you had them before. You can use some of the stones to hold them in place if needed.
- With extra soil from your potting mixture, fill all sides of your arrangement while lightly padding down the soil to secure your plants in their positions.
- Water your soil lightly to help the soil adhere to their new position, and conclude with positioning a decorative piece of driftwood (or various other décor like shells, etc.) where it is pleasing to the eye. Your done and ready to display your work of art in a suitable area to enjoy and share! Keep watering to a minimum as these and various dishes do not have drainage, thus follow my watering guidelines below to ensure a healthy and vibrant display of happy plants!
